The message claims that the recipient has failed to pay a toll and must either appear before a judge or pay a fine to avoid further action. The message also includes a QR code, which scammers claim will allow recipients to pay the fine online.
Do not respond to this message or scan the QR code. This is a scam, and any personal or financial information provided will be used for illegal purposes.
The North Middleton Township Police Department reminds residents to be cautious when receiving unsolicited messages, especially those requesting payment or personal information. Legitimate government agencies will never request payment or sensitive information via text message or email.
