When the weather turns nice, we often have thoughts of spending time outside in the yard or garden.  Beware of individuals traveling in groups of two or more that may be targeting homeowners to gain access to their homes for the purpose of stealing from them.  These actors also may offer to do work such as driveway paving, sealing or roofing jobs but require payment up front.  Once they have left the premises, it is often found that the work is incomplete or of inferior quality.  Sometimes they will pose as working for fencing companies, utility companies, tree-trimming companies, etc. to distract the homeowner while an accomplice gains access to the home.  These are all scams aimed to victimize our communities.  BEWARE!

Also be aware of telephone scams. Do not give out personal information over the telephone. A very popular scam has been illegitimate calls from the Internal Revenue Service. The IRS does not make calls such as this. If you are a victim of a scam IRS phone caller, report this to the IRS at 800-366-4484 or email https://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml. This is the Treasury Inspector General Tax Administration.

Actors are also calling wanting you to go to the store to obtain gift cards and call them back with the numbers located on the cards.  PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS.  IT IS A SCAM.

Actors are calling claiming to be from the Social Security Office.  THIS IS A SCAM ALSO.  PLEASE DO NOT GIVE OUT ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION.

We are especially reminding our elderly residents to be on guard and not to be too trusting.  If anything seems suspicious or you feel uncomfortable about a person or situation, DO NOT LET THEM INTO YOUR HOME UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!!!!  Call us at once at 243-7910.
