It is with a heavy heart that the New Cumberland Borough Police Department shares the information of a shooting that took the life of Officer Andrew Duarte who served for the West York Borough Police Department when he responded to an armed suspect at the UPMC Memorial Hospital in York County on Saturday, February 22, 2025. Three workers at UPMC Memorial Hospital were wounded in the attack, along with the suspect being fatally shot during an exchange of gun fire with police.

Please keep your prayers and thoughts with the family, friends and colleagues of Officer Andrew Duarte and with the UPMC hospital workers and staff. Every time an incident like this occurs it reminds me of how fragile life is for everyone in our society.
