A Block Captain Program is a community initiative where volunteers act as liaisons for their block, promoting safety, communication, and neighborhood engagement.

Block captain programs aim to foster communication, improve safety, and build community engagement. Captains serve as the eyes and ears of their block, connecting neighbors with local authorities and law enforcement. They help distribute information on crime prevention,  neighborhood needs, and emergency preparedness. They may also support neighborhood social gatherings to promote community for all of our residents. 

Block captains will:

• Monitor and report suspicious activity to law enforcement without acting as police themselves.
• Communicate with neighbors about safety tips, borough policies, and local events
• Support neighbors in need, helping with errands or checking in during emergencies.
• Meet with law enforcement, borough officials, and other block captains.
• Organize neighborhood cleanups and beautification projects, such as planting flowers, sweeping sidewalks, or coordinating with other community efforts
• Enhanced neighborhood safety through vigilant observation and timely reporting of suspicious activity.
• Stronger community connections, fostering trust and cooperation among residents.
• Improved local environment, including cleaner streets, better-maintained public spaces, and organized community events.

• Empowerment of residents giving them a proactive role in shaping their neighborhood culture.
