With the snow storm leaving the area, the police department would like to remind residents and business owners, of the requirement to shovel sidewalks and have them cleared. Under the Mechanicsburg Borough Code of Ordinances, Chapter 5, Part 6, 5-603 10 (https://ecode360.com/34379778#34391685), there is a requirement to remove ice and snow from sidewalks within 24 hours of the cessation of snow and ice falling. The police department will begin to issue warning letters / notices tomorrow starting after 600 AM. Residents and business owners receiving a warning notice can be ticketed starting Wednesday, after 1000 AM. A 1st offense for violation of the ordinance will result in a $25 fine with subsequent violations increasing in fine amounts.
