In Memoriam: Retired Police K9 Marc

It is with great sadness that I share the passing of Officer Marc, a retired police K9 of the Mechanicsburg Police Department family.

For many years, Officer Marc proudly served alongside Officer Justin Shutt, answering the call whenever duty required. He was born in Hungary in February of 2015. He began serving the police department in 2016 through a generous donation from the American Legion Post 109. Marc retired December 31st, 2024. Through countless shifts, searches, calls for service, and difficult moments, Marc demonstrated the qualities that make our K9 partners so special through loyalty, courage, determination, and a commitment to the people he served.

While Marc may have had four legs, there was never a question he was a member of our department. The bond between a K9 and handler is difficult to put into words. It is built through long hours of training, trust, sacrifice, and an understanding that often requires no words at all.

Retirement meant that Marc no longer wore the badge or reported for duty, but his service was not forgotten. Marc earned a well-deserved opportunity to spend the rest of his years surrounded in comfort and with the people who loved him.

Today, we remember not only the work Marc accomplished, but also the lives he touched along the way. On behalf of the Mechanicsburg Police Department, I extend our deepest condolences to Officer Shutt and everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working with Marc.

Rest easy, Marc. Thank you for your service. You will never be forgotten.
