Theft of a Motor Vehicle and Theft from a Motor Vehicle

Details Map

On September 8th, 2026, the police department received a report of the theft of a motor vehicle and 2 thefts from motor vehicles which occurred overnight. The vehicle was stolen from the 400 block of South High Street and the vehicles entered were parked in the 200 and 300 blocks of West Maplewood Avenue. All the vehicles entered were unlocked and the key fob to the stolen vehicle was inside it. The vehicle was entered as stolen by the department. On 9/9 in the early morning hours the police department was advised the vehicle was located in Lower Paxton Township by the police department. It was reported an officer got into a vehicle pursuit which was eventually ended and numerous juveniles were taken into custody. All charges regarding the stolen vehicle being recovered in Lower Paxton Township will be handled by their police department and filed with Dauphin County Juvenile Probation. All the juveniles reside at Harrisburg addresses.

Residents are reminded to keep valuables out of their vehicles when parked and to secure their vehicles by locking them. Most of the thefts from vehicles and theft of vehicles occurring in Mechanicsburg and the surrounding areas are due to vehicles not being locked. While the owners of the vehicles are not to blame, the police department is asking residents to make it more difficult for thieves to be successful in their criminal activities.
