On February 23rd, 2026, at approximately 3:06 pm, the police department was contacted by a victim advising they had provided their credit card information after clicking on a link in an email they received through what they thought was the Geek Squad. The victim advised they clicked the link and were instructed to call the phone number provided on the link. The victim who resides in the 700 block of South Market Street stated they were told by an individual answering the phone there might have been unauthorized transactions on their bank debit card. The victim provided their banking debit card information and assumed everything was taken care of. The next day the victim received a phone call advising the debit card information was no longer working and the victim needed to transfer money to the caller through a Wells Fargo account to resolve the banking issues. The victim called their bank and were told it was a scam and report it to the police department. The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information related to this incident is asked to contact the police department.
