On June 19th, 2026 at approximately 12:04 pm, the police department responded to a non-active theft at the library located in the 1st block of North Walnut Street. The officer met with the victim and it was determined a cell phone had been taken. Video surveillance was viewed and a male is seen in the video taking the phone. The identity of the suspect was not known to police at the time.
On June 24th, 2026, at approximately 10:53 am, an officer observed the suspect who was wearing the same clothing in the video. The officer made contact with the individual and advised him of the theft investigation. The individual provided a name which the officer was able to determine was not the individual's true name. The individual was positively identified as McKenzie. McKenzie was found to have active warrants and was taken into custody. McKenzie had a backpack in his possession and a search of the backpack, incident to arrest, resulted in finding the stolen cell phone and a small amount of marijuana. McKenzie was taken into custody and charges were filed against him. He was transported to the Cumberland County Prison. He was later arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Mark Martin and bail was set at $4,000 secure. A preliminary hearing will occur at a later date.
