The FBI and the Center for Internet Security’s Cyber Threat Intelligence Team has announced that scammers are impersonating county and municipal planning commissions, zoning offices, and other local government agencies. In the reported scams, recipients receive emails stating that a planning permit, zoning application, or similar document is under review. The email then directs the recipient to pay a fee through a fraudulent online portal or by wire transfer.
