The Parkesburg Borough Police Department announces the pending retirement of Chief Brian C. Sheller, which will officially take place on January 31st of 2024. Chief Sheller started his career with the Parkesburg Borough Police Department on April 18, 1988. Upon being hired, he was initially assigned to the patrol division and was later promoted to the rank of Corporal. In April of 1992, he was again promoted, this time to the rank of Police Chief, where he has served for more than 30 years. Currently, Chief Sheller is the longest tenured Police Chief in Chester County.
Over those 30 years, Chief Sheller continued to grow the Parkesburg Borough Police Department and with the support of Mayor John Hagan II, the department entered into contract police operations. During these contracted operations, the Parkesburg Borough Police Department provided full-service police coverage to Highland Township, Atglen Borough, Avondale Borough, and Honey Brook Borough. The Parkesburg Borough Police Department still continues with contracted police services today.
Among Chief Sheller's career accomplishments would be his graduation from the FBI National Academy in March 2006 and his dedication to the Chester County Chief's of Police Association where he served as President from January 2013 until December 2014. Currently, Chief Sheller is on-staff at the Chester County Public Safety Training Campus and upon his formal retirement from the Parkesburg Borough Police Department, he has accepted the position of Deputy Warden at the Chester County Prison.
The officers and staff of the Parkesburg Borough Police Department, along with Mayor John Hagan II, would like to sincerely thank Chief Sheller for his nearly 36 years of dedicated service to the citizens of Parkesburg Borough and for supporting law enforcement across Chester County.
As of January 31, 2024, at 23:59 PM, Chief Brian C. Sheller's tour of duty will conclude. Acting Chief of Police Ryan Murtagh will be officially sworn in as the Parkesburg Borough Police Chief on February 1, 2024, at 7:00 PM.
