On February 16, 2024, The Parkesburg Borough Police Department was presented with a brand-new AED (Automated External Defibrillators), courtesy of THE NICHOLAS RYAN OVER FOUNDATION.
THE NICHOLAS RYAN OVER FOUNDATION was founded in 2002 by Nicholas' family after he passed away tragically on the morning of April 8, 2001, from sudden cardiac arrest. An autopsy later revealed that Nicholas had an undiagnosed heart condition called ARVD (arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia). In memory of Nicholas, his family's motivation and message is simple, that if one life could be saved and another family would not have to go through the tragic loss of losing a child, then their efforts would be well worth it, so in 2002, they established THE NICHOLAS RYAN OVER FOUNDATION. Through this foundation, the family raises money to purchase AEDs that are then donated to First Responders and other identified groups that would benefit from having this life saving equipment.
This donation now allows the Parkesburg Borough Police Department to have multiple AEDs assigned to patrol officers working the streets, as we service Parkesburg Borough, Highland Township, and as of March 1, 2024, Atglen Borough. The immediate ability to render aid to someone suffering from a cardiac event is paramount to their survival and quality of life, should they survive the event. The ability to have and utilize an AED during this type of event may truly make all of the difference. The Parkesburg Borough Police Department would like to thank all of the members and supporters of THE NICHOLAS RYAN OVER FOUNDATION, specifically the family.
