Downingtown Police responded on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at 12:06 p.m. to the Unit Block of East Lancaster Avenue near the Downingtown Log House in Downingtown Borough for a single-vehicle crash with reported injuries. The initial investigation found that two adult females were riding in a Silver Jeep Grand Cherokee: a driver and a front-seat passenger. The vehicle was last seen heading east on East Lancaster Avenue before leaving the roadway along the westbound side, crashing into a concrete retention wall, and catching fire just after impact.
The driver succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Downingtown Police Officers, along with a bystander, removed the front-seat passenger. EMS immediately began providing medical care, and the passenger was transported to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. The vehicle occupants' names are being withheld at this time.
East Lancaster Avenue was closed until about 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 6th for the investigation. The Downingtown Police Department Traffic Safety Unit and the Chester County Coroner's Office are conducting an investigation. The West Chester Borough Police Department UAV Unit and the Uwchlan Township Police Department Traffic Safety Unit assisted with the crash investigation. Downingtown Fire & EMS, Thorndale Fire Company, and Good Fellowship EMS provided Fire and EMS services. Fire Police from Downingtown, Thorndale, West Bradford, and West Whiteland assisted with traffic control.
