Residents due to recent vehicle thefts, the Johnstown Police are asking KIA and HYUNDAI owners to take extra precautions , especially model years 2011–2021.

Certain vehicles lack engine immobilizers, making them easier to steal using simple tools. This trend has spread widely through social media and is impacting communities nationwide.

🚗 High-risk vehicles:

Kia models (2011–2021)

Hyundai models (2011–2021)
(Key ignition vehicles are most vulnerable)

🔒 Protect your vehicle:

• Always lock your doors and close windows
• Use a steering wheel lock (highly recommended)
• Park in well-lit areas or garages
• Install an aftermarket alarm or immobilizer
• Check with your dealership for free security updates or recalls
   

📍 If you see suspicious activity:

Report it immediately to local police 

🛑 If your vehicle is stolen:

Call 911 right away and provide your VIN, license plate, and last known location.
