During the 2025 calendar year, the Warrington Police Department was notified by Motorola that it would no longer provide service or support for the Department's aging portable radios. Additionally, replacement parts for the Department's existing body-worn cameras would become increasingly limited as Motorola transitioned to a newer technology platform. At the same time, repairs to the Department's video equipment were becoming more frequent and increasingly difficult to complete. As a result, the Police Department initiated a comprehensive assessment of its communications and video equipment needs. This assessment also recognized that the Department's in-car camera system had remained largely unchanged since it was first deployed in 2013.

In mid-2025, Motorola approached the Warrington Township Emergency Services team with a proposal to modernize the communications and video equipment used by both the Police and Fire Departments. The proposal provided the latest generation of equipment and expanded data storage capabilities at a significantly reduced cost. Through this initiative, both Police and Fire personnel received new portable radios equipped with enhanced safety and communication features. The Police Department also received enough body-worn cameras to eliminate the need for officers to share equipment, and every patrol vehicle was outfitted with the latest in-car camera technology. These upgrades position the Department to meet its operational and technological needs for years to come.

Through the collaborative efforts of the Warrington Police Department, Township Administration, and the office of Representative Brian Munroe, a $250,000 grant was secured to help offset the cost of this critical project. Representative Munroe’s support and advocacy were instrumental in securing this funding, which will provide lasting benefits to Warrington’s emergency responders and the community they serve. The grant application was prepared by Brittney Heller, Executive Assistant to Chief Daniel J. Friel, whose dedication and thorough preparation were key components in successfully securing this funding. This grant significantly reduces the financial impact on Warrington taxpayers while ensuring that the Township's emergency responders are equipped with modern, reliable technology that will enhance public safety and support their mission well into the future.
