FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
On February 2, 2026, at approximately 9:39 p.m., the Buckingham Township Police Department requested assistance from the Warrington Township Police Department to conduct a drone search for a missing endangered male suffering from dementia.
Warrington Township Police Officer Coia responded to the request and immediately deployed a drone. Within a short time, the missing male was located using the drone, and Officer Coia directed responding officers to the individual’s location. The male was safely recovered and reunited with his family.
This incident highlights the capabilities of the Warrington Township Police Department’s Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Division, which was launched in 2025 and is led by Lieutenant Robert Meditz. The UAS Division currently consists of six sworn officers who are FAA-certified drone operators. This program is a joint effort with the Warrington Fire Service who have their own drone and certified operators as well.
The unit supports a wide range of operations, including emergency response and search-and-rescue missions, providing aerial overwatch for law enforcement activities, and supporting community and civil events such as Warrington Township Day and CB South graduations.
