We have had several months of uncertainty due to COVID-19 and most recently, may have felt fear, anger and distrust due to the events in Minneapolis and recent protests, riots and violence around our nation.
This morning, I received this video from my friends in Special Olympics Pennsylvania, saying “thanks” to all of us who proudly wear our badges and strive to do good in our communities. I am fortunate to be the Special Olympics Pennsylvania Assistant Law Enforcement Torch Run Director. I am proud to have been a part of Law Enforcement from around Pennsylvania and the world taking part in Special Olympics fundraising, showing support for our local athletes and raising awareness. In 2019 alone, Law Enforcement Torch Run events raised 1.8 million dollars for our athletes. Law Enforcement, working together and working in and with our communities, see the human value of inclusion for all.
In the last decade, I have been fortunate to meet hundreds of athletes and families. I have witnessed the dedication, commitment and work ethic shown by all of these athletes and their coaches. I have watched as they give their all and do their best in every event and I have become enamored in their drive to be their best. I have had the honor and privilege in watching our athletes be brave and courageous, exemplifying great sportsmanship and displaying the true joy in athletic competition.
I post this video to share positive news, to highlight our athletes and to thank our athletes and our residents for their continued support. It is our pleasure and duty to be working with and for our community and we look forward to continuing our efforts, no matter what tribulations come our way.
