Over the last two weeks the Perkasie Borough Police Department has received numerous reports from community members who were contacted by individuals portraying themselves as members of the Buck's County Sherriff Office. While exact details vary, these contacts generally start as a notification that an individual did not respond to a subpoena or otherwise committed an act which has resulted in a warrant for their arrest. The scammers will often offer the ability to "post bond" by providing money, usually through a cryptocurrency account or similar difficult to trace financial transaction. The Bucks County Sherriff's Office, as well as all police departments within Pennsylvania, will never demand payment or request personal financial information. You can find more information directly from the sheriff's office by clicking here.
If you receive a call from a law enforcement officer that you feel may be suspicious, or is demanding money, we strongly recommend asking for their name and identifying information and informing them that you will call the department directly for further communication. The Bucks County Sherriff's Office can be reached at 215-348-6124. Typical hallmarks of a scam include a heightened sense of emergency, an attempt to stop you from talking to anyone else, and informing you that you cannot hang up or stop contact until a transaction is completed. Residents of Perkasie and Sellersville Boroughs can also contact the Perkasie Borough Police Department if you feel that you have been exposed to or a victim of a scam.
