As students head back to class on Monday August 25th, Perkasie Borough Police would like to remind residents to allow extra time for their commute as our roads will be filled with students walking, biking, or taking the bus to school. As a driver, it's your responsibility to help keep them safe. Please be aware of the following: Reduced speed limits are in place in school zones to protect pedestrians and cyclists. Be cautious of students who may be distracted or not paying attention to traffic. Watch for school buses and follow the rules of the road when they're stopped or in motion. Keep an eye out for pedestrians, especially in crosswalks and near bus stops. By slowing down and staying vigilant, you can help prevent accidents and ensure a safe commute for our students. Remember, the safety of our children is everyone's responsibility.
School bus violations do not need to be observed by police for drivers to receive a ticket. Under Section 3345.1 of the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code, violators caught passing a school bus with its red lights activated and stop arm extended are subject to civil fines. By driving defensively and remaining vigilant, you can significantly reduce the risk of accidents and help ensure a safe journey to and from school for our students.
