Public Safety Announcement: Beware of Email Scam Impersonating Police
The Newtown Borough Police Department is warning residents of a recent email scam where fraudsters are impersonating Newtown Borough Officer. The scam involves sending fake emails claiming to be from the police department, stating that the recipient has an outstanding warrant or fine.
The email may appear legitimate, but it is a phishing attempt to obtain personal and financial information. The Newtown Borough Police Department will never contact you via email to demand payment or request sensitive information.
If you receive an email of this nature, do not respond or provide any information. Instead, report it to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and delete the email.
