Staying Safe This St. Patrick's Day!

☘️ Staying Safe This St. Patrick’s Day! ☘️

The luck of the Irish is great, but a solid plan is even better.  As we prepare to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, the South Heidelberg Police Department wants to ensure everyone in our community makes it home safely.

Whether you’re heading to the parade or grabbing a pint at the local pub, keep these safety tips in mind:

🚗 Plan Your Way Home:

Don't rely on "feeling okay" to drive. Alcohol can impair your judgment long before you feel "drunk."

  • Designate a Driver: Decide who is staying sober before the first toast.
  • Use Rideshares: Keep your Uber or Lyft apps updated and ready.
  • Public Transit: Check local holiday schedules for buses and trains.

👥 Watch Out for Your Crew:

  • Stick Together: Use the buddy system. Don’t let a friend wander off alone or leave with someone they don't know.
  • Hydrate: For every festive drink, have a glass of water. Your head will thank you tomorrow!
  • Charge Up: Make sure your phone is fully charged before you head out.

🛡️ Pedestrian Safety:

If you’re walking between venues, remember that drivers may be distracted or impaired.

  • Cross at Crosswalks: Avoid darting between parked cars.
  • Stay Visible: It’s a green holiday, but adding something reflective or keeping your phone flashlight handy helps drivers see you after dark.

A Note from Chief Hook: We will have extra patrols on duty this week specifically looking for impaired drivers.  Our goal isn't to ruin the fun , it's to make sure everyone reaches their destination safely.  Zero tolerance for buzzed or drunk driving.

If you see something, say something.  If you spot a driver acting erratically, call dispatch at 610.655.4911 or dial 911 for emergencies.

Have a wonderful, safe, and happy St. Patrick’s Day! 🌈✨
