New Pennsylvania law bans all handheld devices behind the wheel

Effective, June 5, 2025, a new law (75 Pa Vehicle Code § 3316.1) makes it ILLEGAL to use a handheld interactive mobile device while driving.

This includes holding your phone, texting, emailing, gaming, or scrolling social media – even if you're stopped at a red light or in a traffic jam!

Key things to know:

Warnings only from June 5, 2025, to June 5, 2026.

After that, a $50 fine begins June 6, 2026.

Allowed: Hands-free devices, GPS/navigation, emergency calls to 911.
