What is Operation Identify?
Operation Identify is a public safety initiative led by the Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) through its Victim Identification Lab at the Cyber Crimes Center.
The program asks for the public’s help in identifying everyday objects and locations that appear in child sexual exploitation investigations. These items — such as clothing, logos, toys, hotel rooms, landmarks, or street signs — may contain critical clues that help investigators identify and rescue child victims.
How it works
The Operation Identify website (ice.gov/operation-identify) displays carefully edited, non-explicit image fragments from ongoing investigations. These images do not show abuse. Instead, they focus only on objects or backgrounds that may help pinpoint a location or identify a victim.
Why it matters
Something that seems ordinary to you — a backpack brand, a school logo, a park playground, a hotel light fixture — could be the key detail investigators need. Even small pieces of information can make a difference.
How to help
If you recognize an object or location shown on the site, you can submit a tip directly through the webpage. Providing details such as possible locations, store names, team affiliations, or other identifying information may help authorities locate and safeguard a child.
Every image is a clue. Public awareness and shared information increase the chances of identifying and protecting children in danger.
