The Berks County wide BURN BAN has expired as of Monday, December 2, 2024 and has not been extended.  We ask that you still use caution if doing any type of outdoor activities with open flame.

Please remember that the Chester County Burn Ban is active until further notice.

The ban on outdoor burning in Berks County has expired.

The 30-day ban, which was instituted Nov. 2 on the recommendation of William Penn State Forest District Forester Richard Hartlieb with the support of 20 Berks fire chiefs, was lifted Monday as scheduled.

Open burning is defined as the outdoor ignition and subsequent burning of any combustible material, including garbage, leaves, twigs, wood, litter, paper, vegetative matter and other debris, either in a burn barrel, backyard fire pit or on the ground.

County officials said in a release that while weather conditions have improved, they encourage residents to use commonsense safety measures when burning materials. They added that residents are expected to follow local ordinances and state guidelines regarding burning on private property and on public lands.
