Did you know? April is Child Abuse Awareness Month. Armstrong County is STRONG in standing against child abuse. We have a nationally accredited Child Advocacy Center, Kay's Cottage, right in Kittanning. There, children have a safe space to be interviewed by individuals specifically trained to interview children. At Kay's Cottage, DA Charlton heads MDIT, a team of law enforcement, forensic interviewers, CYF supervisors and caseworkers, social service workers and medical doctors that meets every month to review reports of abuse and interviews that have been conducted. At the direction of DA Charlton, the team then decides whether to move forward with filing criminal charges and also to discuss protection of the child and how team members can work together to support the child and his or her family.
