The Eastern Regional Mon Valley Police Department is urging all drivers to review their responsibilities when approaching stop signs. According to Pennsylvania law (Title 75 §3353), drivers are required to follow specific guidelines when encountering stop signs. These duties include coming to a complete halt at a clearly marked stop line, or if none is present, before entering a crosswalk or at the point where the driver has a clear view of oncoming traffic on the intersecting roadway. If, after stopping, the driver's view is obstructed, they must slowly pull forward to a point where they can see approaching traffic, yielding to any pedestrians in the crosswalk. Additionally, drivers must give the right-of-way to any vehicles in the intersection or approaching from another roadway, only entering the intersection when it is safe to do so.
