On July 31, 2025 at approximately 8:20pm the Steuben Co. 911 center dispatched the Corning Police Department to West Second St. near Chestnut St for the sound of an explosion in the Monkey Run flood control flume. Upon investigation it was determined the source of the explosion within the concrete flume to be from illegal fireworks. The Corning Police Department is seeking information from the public in an attempt to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident. Residents in the area of W. Second St. near Chestnut St. are asked to review any available security camera footage from this time frame and report any suspicious activity to the Corning Police Department through the Crimewatch Submit a Tip option or by calling 607-962-0340 x1500.
