The North Carolina Governor’s Highway Safety Program (GHSP) awarded the Thomasville Police Department with a DWI Task Force Officer Grant starting in 2022. The grant will provide 100 percent funding for the first year totaling $119,593.00. This is the first year of the grant, and the Department seeks to continue the grant funding for the next three years.
The goal of the grant is to aggressively combat impaired drivers and speeding issues within the city of Thomasville and Davidson County, which often lead to crashes, injuries, and fatalities. The program will also address traffic-related issues, such as unrestrained drivers, and children, and, educate the public about dangerous driving behaviors.
Davidson County currently ranks 10th overall in fatality rankings within the state, 19th in alcohol-related fatalities, and 5th in young driver fatalities.
