On February 22, 2026, at approximately 3:00 a.m., a Milton Police Officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding on Harbeson Road. The operator, 30-year-old Paul Hagerman, displayed clear indicators of drug impairment. The officer instructed Hagerman out of the vehicle to initiate Standardized Field Sobriety Testing. Hagerman refused to step out of the vehicle, placed the vehicle in drive and briefly fled the stop. The passenger, 35-year-old Lamont Hazzard, jumped out of the moving vehicle, causing the operator to stop again.
The officer attempted to take Hagerman into custody, but he actively resisted arrest. After a brief struggle, Hagerman was taken into custody. The passenger, Lamont Hazzard was found to be in possession of Crack Cocaine, Crystal Methamphetamine, Heroin, and other drug paraphernalia.
The operator, Paul Hagerman was arrested and formally charged with DUI Drug Related, Resisting Arrest, and Speeding in excess of Posted Limits. The passenger, Lamont Hazzard was arrested and formally charged with three counts of Possession of Counterfeit Substance and one count of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Both individuals were committed to the Sussex Correctional Institute by Justice of the Peace Court 11 pending arraignment. All persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
