The Hudson Police Department would like to acknowledge the Colorado legislators for recognizing the flaws in House Bill 26-1037, which failed to pass in the House Judiciary Committee.
This bill would have limited law enforcement's access to essential identifying information, hindering our ability to respond to active threats, solve crimes, assist victims, and maintain community safety.
Furthermore, HB26-1037 would have created a double standard by restricting law enforcement's access to information readily available to private actors, such as bail bondsmen and investigators. This would not have contributed to making our communities safer.
We appreciate the understanding that effective public safety requires policies that balance protecting privacy with ensuring community safety.
Thank you for your continued support in keeping our communities safe.
