During the past two weeks Northampton Township (Bucks County) has been plagued with numerous thefts from unlocked vehicles and thefts of vehicles with keys left inside. These thefts were occurring overnight in the Holland section of the Township.
On September 20th and 21st 2017 the Police Department deployed additional plain clothes police officers in an effort to catch the suspect. At approx. 23:20 hrs plainclothes officers located one of the previously stolen vehicles (Hyundai Sonata) on Forrest Dr. A short time later a stolen GMC Arcadia was located on East Heron Dr. Plainclothes officers assisted by a detective and uniform patrol officers set up a surveillance on the stolen vehicles. A short time later a suspect attempted to enter the stolen Hyundai Sonata. After a brief struggle the male was taken into custody. It was found that the suspect had just committed numerous theft from unlocked vehicles in the Holland section of the township. The suspect was identified as Steven M. Harkins currently from Philadelphia and formerly from Bensalem. The identification and arrest of Harkins was a result of GREAT TEAMWORK by multiple members of the police department. Police are working to return recovered stolen property to its rightful owner.
Harkins was charged with Theft by Unlawful Taking (Felony-3), Receiving Stolen Property (Felony-3), Resisting Arrest (Misd-2) and Loitering and Prowling at Night-time. Harkins was arraigned before District Justice Gallagher and remanded to Bucks County Correctional Facility in lieu of $100,000.00 bail.
Police are confident that Harkins is involved in previously reported Thefts from Vehicles and Theft of Vehicles and are working to determine if anyone assisted him in these crime.
