Back to School Tips from Your School Resource Officers
Two weeks of school have flown by! Before we know it, it'll be Christmas!!
LMPD's School Resource Officers (SROs) Samuels and Brommer want to ensure all students have a safe and successful academic year!
Here are some valuable tips to help students, parents, and guardians throughout the new school year:
Stay Safe on the Way to School
- Always walk or bike with a buddy, especially for younger students.
- Use designated crosswalks and follow traffic signals.
- Be aware of your surroundings and avoid distractions like using your phone while walking.
Be Cyber Smart
- Never share personal information or passwords with anyone online.
- Be cautious when using social media and avoid posting personal photos or information.
- Report any suspicious online activity to a trusted adult or authority figure.
Respect Your Peers and Property
- Treat others with kindness and respect, both in person and online.
- Respect school property and the belongings of others.
- Report any incidents of bullying or vandalism to school administrators or SROs.
Stay Informed and Involved
- Stay up-to-date with school news and announcements through official channels.
- Participate in school events and extracurricular activities to build positive relationships with peers and staff.
- Communicate openly with teachers, counselors, and SROs about any concerns or issues.
Driving Tips for Student and Adult Drivers
- Slow Down: Be aware of school zones and reduce your speed to ensure the safety of pedestrians, especially children.
- Be Alert: Keep an eye out for children walking or biking to school, and be prepared to stop for pedestrians in crosswalks.
- Follow School Bus Rules: Never pass a stopped school bus with its red lights flashing, and always stop for a school bus with its stop arm extended.
- Use Caution at Intersections: Be mindful of pedestrians and bicyclists at intersections, and come to a complete stop at stop signs and red lights.
- Avoid Distractions: Put away your phone and avoid other distractions while driving, as they can increase your risk of being involved in a crash.
- Plan Ahead: Leave early to account for potential traffic congestion and road closures, and consider carpooling or using alternative modes of transportation.
Stay safe, and let's have a great school year!
