An Ephrata man was sentenced to four to 10 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to injuring a man in a head-on crash while he drove under the influence of multiple drugs.

Judge Todd Brown sentenced Cody Benjamin Weasenforth, of the 1500 block of West Main Street, after he pleaded guilty Aug. 6 to charges of aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence, three counts of driving under the influence and two summary traffic offenses.

Weasenforth, 35, crashed head-on into the victim in the 4300 block of Oregon Pike in West Earl Township in September 2024. The victim suffered a fractured vertebra that required a surgical procedure to correct as a result of the crash.

The victim told police he was traveling southbound along Oregon Pike when Wesenforth, traveling north, swerved into his lane and struck him head-on. The impact of the collision was so severe that the victim’s vehicle spun around entirely. 

Blood drawn from Weasenforth about two hours after the collision contained methamphetamine, THC compounds, methadone and alprazolam. 

While speaking to police Weasenforth displayed signs of impairment. Weasenforth admitted to police to having consumed marijuana, methadone and an unfamiliar substance he believed to be ecstasy in the hours before the crash. 

Police also found a bottle of methadone HCL while searching Weasenforth’s vehicle for his insurance information with his consent.

In addition to the prison time, Weasenforth must pay more than $34,000 in restitution as part of his sentence. 

Assistant District Attorney Kyle Linardo prosecuted the case. Assistant District Attorney Emily Corcuera assisted in the prosecution.

West Earl Township Police Officer Mitchell Rogers filed the charges.
