The school year is upon us. Please pay attention to the school buses and school zones. Last year, Bus Patrol issued 398 school bus violations. Please help keep the students safe and refer to the following school zone times and school bus stopping laws.
School zone on Carlisle Road for Cedar Cliff High School and Highland Elementary School.
There are students of all ages that walk to school or get crossed by a crossing guard. Please slow down, do not drive distracted, and obey the posted speeds and orders of crossing guards.
The school zone lights are on in that area multiple times throughout the day providing warning to slow down:
7:15 AM to 7:45 AM
8:15 AM to 8:45 AM
11:00 AM to 1:00 PM
2:45 PM to 4:00 PM
School zone for Rossmoyne Elementary school is active between:
8:00 AM to 9:00 AM
3:00 PM to 4:00 PM
Additionally, please pay attention to the school buses. The school will continue its use of the Bus Patrol program.
With children returning to school, it’s a good time to revisit the state school bus stopping law as well.
Motorists must stop at least 10 feet away from school buses that have their red lights flashing and stop arm extended.
Motorists must stop when they are behind a bus, meeting the bus or approaching an intersection where a bus is stopped.
Motorists following or traveling alongside a school bus must also stop until the red lights have stopped flashing, the stop arm is withdrawn and all children have reached safety.
If physical barriers such as grassy medians, guide rails or concrete median barriers separate oncoming traffic from the bus, motorists in the opposing lanes may proceed without stopping.
Do not proceed until all the children have reached a place of safety.
Attached is a spread sheet provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation which provides information and answers frequently asked questions about such cameras.
