On Tuesday, July 21st, 2026, at approximately 1402 hours, Officers from Pocono Township Police Department responded to a residence on Beaver Trail in Scotrun for a report of a rooster that was shot and killed while it was on the owner's property. The owner of the rooster stated that a male drove past his residence, got out of his truck and shot his rooster. The male was later identified as Raymond Zelyez, 63-year-old male from Scotrun. Officers interviewed Raymond and he admitted to driving past the residence, shooting the rooster and leaving in his truck that was observed on camera. Raymond stated he shot the rooster because he was tired of it waking him up in the morning. Raymond was charged with Aggravated cruelty to animals and recklessly endangering another person for firing a gun within a residence community with occupied structures.
