Active Shooter training exercises planned during the Week of July 20, 2026
The Marple Township Police Department will be hosting Active Shooter Instructor Certification Training through the National Tactical Officer’s Association. This training will certify over 25 Law Enforcement Officers from around the region, as Active Shooter Instructors. The ‘classroom’ portion of the training will be completed at the Marple Township Police Department. The ‘scenario’ portion of the training will be held at Cardinal O’Hara High School.
During the ‘scenario’ exercises, there will be an increased presence of law enforcement vehicles, emergency personnel, and related public safety activity at the school during certain training periods. This activity is part of a planned training exercise and does not represent an actual emergency or threat to public safety.
The purpose of the training is to provide first responders with realistic, hands-on experience, on responding to active shooter incidents. These training exercises are an important component of ongoing preparedness efforts and help ensure that emergency personnel are equipped to protect the community in the event of an actual crisis.
Community members are asked not to be alarmed if they observe emergency vehicles, personnel, training equipment, or law enforcement activity at or around the school during the exercise period. Please be assured that:
-
There is no active threat at Cardinal O'Hara High School
-
The activity is a pre-planned training exercises
-
The training is being conducted in a controlled environment
-
Public safety services will remain available to respond to emergencies throughout the exercise
We appreciate the community's understanding and cooperation as first responders participate in this valuable training opportunity. We also extend our sincere thanks to the Administration Team at Cardinal O’Hara High School, for allowing us to utilize part of their facility for this extremely valuable training.
