A York County teenager charged with stealing an assault rifle at gunpoint in a Lancaster city parking lot will have his case proceed to county court after waiving his preliminary hearing. 

Wyatt Allen-McKinney, of Red Lion Borough, waived his preliminary hearing before Judge Andrew LeFever on July 10 on charges of robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, simple assault, carrying a firearm without a license, two count of possessing a firearm as a minor and a single count of possessing an instrument of crime.

Allen-McKinney, 15, is accused of stealing the rifle at gunpoint in a parking lot in the 100 block of East Lemon Street in Lancaster city the morning of April 6.

The victim told police that he had arranged the sale of the weapon, an AR-15-style rifle, and agreed to meet Allen-McKinney and his co-defendant, Anthony Marin Gonzalez, in the parking lot around 8 a.m.

When the two arrived Gonzales produced a handgun with an extended magazine and demanded that the victim surrender the rifle, he said. 

Lancaster Safety Coalition footage purports to depict Allen-McKinney and Gonzales leaving the area in a vehicle. Police identified Allen-McKinney by tracing the vehicle’s license plate to his mother. 

Data taken from Allen-McKinney’s cellphone also purports to show that he was in the area of the robbery at the time it was committed. 

Neither Allen-McKinney nor Gonzales have permits to carry firearms. Additionally, as juveniles, neither is allowed to carry a firearm at all.

Allen-McKinney remains in the Lancaster County Youth Intervention Center in lieu of $100,000 bail. Gonzales remains at large.

Lancaster City Bureau of Police Det. Shane Douglas-Synder filed the charges.

Assistant District Attorney Andrew Harbaugh will prosecute the case.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
