HARRISBURG - Pennsylvania's highest Court ruled Monday that thousands of "skill games" machines in operation across Pennsylvania are being operated in violation of the Pennsylvania Gambling Act and the Crimes Code. The Court said that "skill games" are essentially slot machines, and are therefore subject to the same laws imposed on licensed casinos in the Commonwealth.
The Court stayed it's order for 120 days in the effort to allow businesses and the legislature time to determine if a legislative solution might be possible. If not, over 10,000 "skill games" in the Commonwealth, including over 100 in Clinton County located in social clubs, convenience stores, and other small businesses will have to be removed. Any continued operation of the games after that deadline could result in criminal charges.
