📱🚔 Paul Miller’s Law Takes Effect: Citations Begin June 6, 2026
Beginning June 6, 2026, Pennsylvania law enforcement officers may issue citations under Paul Miller’s Law for the use of an interactive mobile device while driving. Violations carry a $50 fine, plus applicable court costs and fees.
Under 75 Pa.C.S.A. § 3316.1, it is illegal to use a handheld interactive mobile device while operating a motor vehicle. This includes:
• Holding a mobile device while driving
• Dialing or interacting with a device using more than a single button press
• Reaching for a device in a way that requires you to become unseated or remove your seat belt
⚠️ Important: The law applies even when you are temporarily stopped in traffic, including at red lights, stop signs, traffic jams, or other traffic control devices.
The only exception is when contacting law enforcement or emergency services to prevent injury to persons or property.
Remember: If you need to use your phone, safely pull your vehicle completely out of the flow of traffic before doing so.
📵 Put the phone down. Stay focused on the road. Help keep Pennsylvania’s roadways safe for everyone.
Respectfully,
-NCPD
