A York city man wanted for a Manheim Borough shooting that left a woman dead Monday morning was found shot to death last night in what appears to have been a suicide.
Michael Anthony Boccia, of the 200 block of East Princess Street in York city, was found dead in his vehicle near Cullman, Ala.
Boccia had called the Manheim Borough Police Department around 11 p.m. threatening to commit suicide. Police determined Boccia was in Cullman, about 45 miles north of Birmingham, and attempted to remain on the line with him and contacted a dispatcher in Alabama. As police in Alabama attempted to approach Boccia they discovered him dead in his vehicle from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Alabama Bureau of Investigations is currently investigating Boccia’s death.
Boccia, 36, had been charged late last night with shooting and killing 37-year-old Keshia M. Gonzalez at an apartment in the first block of North Main Street in Manheim Borough. Boccia faced charges of criminal homicide, firearms not to be carried without a license, simple assault and possessing a prohibited firearm.
Police had been dispatched to the residence shortly after 7:30 a.m. Monday after reports of multiple shots being fired and a woman yelling for help. When officers arrived they found Gonzalez on the floor suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and beyond help.
An eyewitness told police they heard Gonzalez yelling for help but were unable to open her door. As the witness was attempting to enter Gonzalez’s apartment to render aid Boccia emerged from the doorway, pointing a handgun at them. The witness retreated from the apartment and then heard three gunshots.
Surveillance footage showed a maroon sedan consistent with the one registered to Boccia arriving at Gonzalez’s apartment around 7:20 a.m. and a figure ascending the stairs to her residence. Audio from the surveillance footage captured yelling and the sound of three gunshots around 7:30 a.m., after which a figure can be seen fleeing Gonzalez’s residence and speeding away in the maroon sedan.
Multiple witnesses told police Boccia had called them on the day of the shooting, including family members, who stated that he told them he had done something bad.
A search of Gonzalez’s residence uncovered shell casings near her body.
Lancaster County Detectives are assisting Manheim Borough police in this investigation.
