We would like to make residents aware of a recent scam targeting members of our community. Several individuals have reported receiving phone calls from someone claiming to be an officer with the Northampton County Sheriff's Department. The caller advises that the victim has an arrest warrant for missing jury duty and must pay a large fee immediately to avoid arrest.
This is a scam.
Law Enforcement agencies will never demand payment over the phone, request payment through gift cards, cryptocurrency, wire transfers, or other unconventional methods, or threaten immediate arrest if payment is not made.
If you receive a suspicious call:
- Hang up immediately
- Do not provide personal or financial information
- Do not send money or make any payments
- Verify the information by contacting the agency directly using a known phone number
If you have any questions or concerns about a call you receive, please contact us immediately at 610-759-2200. We are happy to help verify information and prevent residents from becoming victims of fraud.
