The public is advised to be aware of ongoing phone scams involving individuals falsely claiming to be members of the Sheriff’s Department or court officials. Scammers are contacting residents and telling them they missed jury duty and now have an active warrant for their arrest.
The callers often demand immediate payment through gift cards, wire transfers, cryptocurrency, or mobile payment apps to “clear” the warrant or avoid arrest.
Please remember:
If you are unsure whether a communication is legitimate, contact your local law enforcement agency or the court directly using verified phone numbers.
Residents who believe they may have been targeted or victimized by this scam are encouraged to report it to their local police department.
