During this week of Police honors, the Susquehanna Township Police Department would like to highlight two members of our Department, Lieutenant Bo McCallister and Sergeant James Nelson. 

Lieutenant McCallister had served with the Susquehanna Township Police Department for 32 years. On February 19, 1981, Lt. McCallister responded to a bank robbery where he was shot while pursuing an armed suspect. He received the Medal of Valor and Purple Heart Medal for his actions. Lieutenant McCallister partially recovered and remained active with the police department. He underwent numerous surgeries and a result of his wounds and passed away from complications on January 20th, 2019. His death was ruled a homicide by the medical examiner. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, and four grandchildren.

Sergeant Nelson served the township for 24 years as a patrolman, detective, and patrol supervisor. He was the senior officer on the Department and a consummate law enforcement officer when he fell ill while processing a suspect, and collapsed in the Police Station on February 18 , 2008. He fought for several days to recover but succumbed and left behind a wife, Kim, and two children, ages 12 and 16. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
