A Caernarvon Township man charged with attempting to stab a man to death during a fight over the volume of his music will have his case proceed to county court after waiving his preliminary hearing.

Jace Allen Hatton, 21, waived his preliminary hearing before Judge Raymond Sheller on April 14 on charges of attempted homicide, aggravated assault, simple assault, harassment, criminal mischief, possession of an instrument of crime, tampering with evidence, terroristic threats sand institutional vandalism.

Hatton is accused of kicking, stomping and stabbing the victim with a kitchen knife at his residence in the 400 block of Shirktown Road the morning of March 20. The victim suffered cuts to his elbow which required stitches, a puncture wound to his leg which required medical treatment and abrasions to his skull, hands, arms, shoulder and foot as a result of the stabbing.

An eyewitness called police shortly before 11:30 a.m., saying Hatton was drunk and acting out of control chasing the victim. Police arrived at the scene to find large pool of blood and two holes Hatton had broken in the walls of the residence, causing more than $500 in damage.

The victim told police he and Hatton had been arguing throughout the morning over the volume of Hatton’s music. The argument turned into a physical altercation, the victim said, and Hatton grabbed a sharp kitchen knife and began chasing him around the residence.

At one point during the fight the victim tripped and fell onto the ground and Hatton began cutting and stabbing him with the knife, he said. While the victim was on the ground Hatton also repeatedly kicked him and stomped on his head, he added.

In an interview with police Hatton said he wiped the victim’s blood off of the knife after stabbing him.

After being arrested Hatton told police that he “should have stabbed my brother to death” and that he was going to “kill him.”

While in police custody Hatton spit on the floor twice, punched a wall and kicked a computer station used for fingerprinting and photographing individuals.

Hatton remains in Lancaster County Prison in lieu of $300,000 bail.

Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Richard Whitehouse filed the charges.

Assistant District Attorney Jessica Collo will prosecute the case.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
