Pittsburgh, PA -- In one of the warmest plunges on record, the annual Polar Plunge in the city of Pittsburgh raised more than $1.2 million dollars for the Special Olympics of Pennsylvania. 

The Westmoreland County District Attorney's Office participated in the cause and jumped into chilly waters on Saturday outside of Acrisure Stadium alongside the Westmoreland County Sheriff's Office and other local law enforcement agencies. 

Thousands of polar plungers braved the frigid waters as a way to raise money to benefit the thousands of athletes who partake in the Special Olympics games every year. 

All funds raised help provide free, year-round sports training and competition opportunities to more than 15,000 athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities across Pennsylvania.

Some of the top fundraising teams contributing to the million-dollar goal included Port Authority Police with $64,800, Carnegie Mellon Police with $35,940, and Monroeville Police with $24,091.
