Westmoreland County, PA -- The Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, in partnership with Westmoreland County District Attorney Nicole W. Ziccarelli, the Fayette County District Attorney’s Office, Somerset County District Attorney’s Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and various law enforcement agencies from western Pennsylvania announced the significant seizures of firearms and narcotics as a result of ongoing criminal investigations.
The Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General hosted a news conference in North Huntingdon Township this morning with county, state, and federal law enforcement partners present.
In January, the Office of Attorney General’s Bureau of Narcotics Investigation, assisted by federal, state, and local law enforcement partners seized 41 firearms in Pennsylvania’s Region 5 during the course of drug trafficking investigations.
Agents believe it is the highest, single-month seizure on record in Region 5, which includes Allegheny, Fayette, Somerset, and Westmoreland counties.
Agents also sized more than 12 pounds of cocaine, a pound of crack cocaine, and more than 63,000 doses of fentanyl, along with heroin and marijuana.
“This intensive investigative work would not be possible without the collaboration and communication among local, county, state, and federal law enforcement partnerships,” DA Ziccarelli said. “Our law enforcement partners work cooperatively and relentlessly to investigate drug-centered crimes that infiltrate our communities with poison and violence, and it is a privilege to recognize the work they do every day.”
The Attorney General’s Office reported, nine people have been arrested, so far, in connection to about 20 cases involving illegally possessed firearms.
“These numbers are rewarding as they show the progress our team, along with partners at all levels, are making in efforts to remove firearms from the hands of drug traffickers,” Attorney General Sunday said. “They also serve as indicators of the firepower our brave officers encounter when they enter a home with a warrant, or make a traffic stop, in efforts to keep communities safe. To traffickers, we say: we are not deterred.”
In less than two months into 2026, the total number of firearms seized in the region for the year has climbed to 48.
DA Ziccarelli stated, “Through this collaboration it starts at the top with leadership, so it comes from the Attorney General Dave Sunday. We work with our federal partners, our district attorneys; crime doesn’t just happen in the big cities, crime happens here too, it happens in surrounding communities, our rural communities and we are here to say enough is enough. We are going to work together. We are going to collaborate because we trust one another.”
