Greensburg, PA -- Westmoreland County District Attorney Nicole W. Ziccarelli announces a North Versailles woman was sentenced to serve up to 16 years in prison for shooting her former roommate in 2022.
Common Pleas Judge Scott Mears sentenced Leah Gillis, 36, to eight to 16 years on Friday.
Gillis was convicted by a jury of attempted homicide, aggravated assault and reckless endangerment in November after a two-day trial.
Prosecutors contended that Gillis acted out of jealousy when she shot her former roommate through a glass window and struck him in the neck and shoulder in August of 2022 outside of a Penn Township home.
Investigators testified during the trial that the victim's injuries were so severe they did not think he would survive.
The victim read a victim impact statement at the sentencing before the judge on Friday and relayed that he continues to live with 100 pellets in his body after being shot by Gillis.
DA Ziccarelli thanks Assistant District Attorney Steve Reddy for prosecuting this case on behalf of the Commonwealth.
Gillis was remanded to jail following her conviction.
