Lower Burrell, PA -- A Lower Burrell woman was charged by police nearly six months after causing an accident that left several people hurt. 

Grisell Hernandez, 22, is facing charges of driving under the influence, aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI, accident involving injury, driving with a suspended license, reckless driving, recklessly endangering another person, possession of marijuana, and drug possession. 

Lower Burrell Police said Hernandez was behind the wheel on August 22, 2025 when police and paramedics responded to a vehicle over a hillside on Edgecliff Road in Lower Burrell. 

The vehicle was found overturned over a hillside with people trapped. 

Hernandez was located on the ground adjacent to the vehicle and admitted to police that she was the driver. 

Another woman was trapped inside of the vehicle, severely injured and pregnant at the time of the crash. 

Police said she had to be extricated from the vehicle and was flown to a Pittsburgh-area hospital with serious injuries. 

Another passenger was located outside of the vehicle and was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries. 

After Hernandez was extricated from the hillside, officers noticed she had alcohol on her breath and described her eyes were bloodshot and glassy.

Officers noticed alcohol in plain view inside of the vehicle, in addition to the smell of burnt marijuana. 

The pregnant victim was said to have multiple fractures, a scalp laceration, and underwent emergency surgery due to unstable cervical spine injuries. 

Physicians noted that without surgical intervention, the victim risked permanent quadriplegia or paraplegia, according to police. 

Following lab results, it was determined Hernandez's blood alcohol content was .182 and also contained THC in her system. 

The SUV was said to be traveling at approximately 90 miles per hour five seconds prior to the crash, before slowing to 68 miles per hour prior to impact. 

Hernandez is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in February. 

Hernandez has other pending cases involving DUI-related charges and possession of marijuana.
