Food for Fines Campaign November 17-21

As part of Restorative Justice Week, Nov. 16-22, Human Services & Restorative Justice Club members and first-year students of the program will accept “Food4Fines.” Students will be stationed in the lobbies of the Hager Lifelong Education Center and Klump Academic Center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to noon Friday to collect food donations in exchange for Penn College parking tickets. Parking violators can avoid paying the $15 fee by bringing five non-perishable items, along with their ticket, to one of the locations.

All food items will be donated to The Cupboard at Penn College, an on-campus food pantry located outside the Wildcat Express in the Bush Campus Center for students who are experiencing food insecurity. Smaller cupboards can be found in the Schnebelli Earth Science Center, Lumley Aviation Center, Klump Academic Center, College Avenue Labs, Carl Building Technologies Center and Breuder Advanced Technology & Health Sciences Center.

“This is a way for offenders to rectify their past and make something good of their choices,” said Susan M. Alberti, human services and restorative justice instructor. “We appreciate the support of Police Chief (David C.) Pletz for this important annual event. I don’t think people realize the amount of food insecurity our kids struggle with. ‘Food4Fines’ helps the offender, and it helps The Cupboard.”

To learn more about Penn College’s human services & restorative justice program, call 570-327-4761 or visit www.pct.edu/humanservices.
