A Manheim Township man who was already a registered sex offender was sentenced to 12 and a half to 25 years in state prison after he pleaded guilty this week to soliciting nude images from a 13-year-old girl.
Judge David Ashworth sentenced Ryan Michael Minzer, of the 1100 block of Olde Hickory Road, after he pleaded guilty July 30 to criminal solicitation of sexual abuse of children, failure to provide accurate registration information, criminal use of a communication facility and corruption of minors.
Speaking in almost a whisper, Minzer, 36, did not dispute that he repeatedly asked the Harrisburg-area girl for images of her breasts for months. Though he declined to address the court when given the opportunity to do so, an attorney representing Minzer said he suffered a “long history” of impulse control.
Minzer first began communicating with the girl on social media sometime around April 2023, which eventually led to the two talking on the phone on a daily basis.
Over the next several months Minzer steered the conversations in a sexual direction, asking the victim for nude images, requesting that she meet him in person and offering to take her shopping for gifts including underwear.
Police began investigating Minzer in June 2023, after the victim’s father contacted law enforcement.
In a subsequent interview with police Minzer admitted to having sexually charged conversations with the victim and to having two social media accounts that he never disclosed to Pennsylvania State Police as mandated by law.
Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Lapp prosecuted the case.
Manheim Township Police Detective Sarah Goss filed the charges.
